A kitchen remodel doesn't always require moving walls or changing the layout. Sometimes the biggest transformation comes from updating the finishes while keeping a kitchen's functionality intact.
In this recent project, the existing layout worked well for the homeowners, so we focused on modernizing the space with new cabinetry, countertops, lighting, backsplash, and finishing details. The result is a kitchen that feels brighter, more open, and perfectly suited to everyday living.

Fresh Cabinetry Creates an Entirely New Feel
One of the most noticeable changes is the cabinetry.
The original medium oak cabinets gave the kitchen a traditional builder-grade appearance. For the remodel, we installed beautiful shaker-style cabinetry in a soft sage-gray finish. The clean lines instantly modernize the room while adding warmth and character without feeling overly trendy.
The new cabinetry also extends into a matching built-in buffet, providing additional storage and creating a cohesive look throughout the kitchen.

Quartz Countertops Brighten the Entire Space
The previous laminate countertops were replaced with bright white quartz featuring subtle veining.
Beyond their timeless appearance, quartz countertops offer exceptional durability, resist staining, and require very little maintenance—making them an excellent choice for busy families.
The lighter surface reflects natural and artificial light throughout the room, making the kitchen feel noticeably larger.
A Subway Tile Backsplash Adds Texture Without Competing
Instead of a darker stone backsplash, we selected a classic white subway tile.
Its clean, horizontal lines add texture while keeping the design simple and timeless. The light color complements the cabinetry and countertops, creating a fresh, cohesive palette that won't go out of style.
Updated Lighting Makes the Kitchen Shine
Lighting can completely change how a room feels.
The original pendant fixtures were replaced with larger, more contemporary fixtures featuring black accents and frosted glass. Combined with the recessed lighting, the new fixtures provide better task lighting while becoming an attractive design feature above the peninsula.
Modern Hardware Finishes the Look
Cabinet hardware may seem like a small detail, but it makes a tremendous difference.
Sleek dark pulls were selected to complement the lighting fixtures and appliances, adding contrast against the soft cabinet color and tying the entire design together.
Keeping What Works
One of the smartest decisions in this remodel was keeping the existing kitchen layout.
The appliances remained in their original locations, avoiding costly plumbing and electrical modifications while allowing the budget to be invested where it would have the greatest visual impact. The existing floor tile was also retained, proving that not every surface needs to be replaced to achieve a dramatic transformation.
